The Dean Hotel Generates Early Buzz

Excitement is building for the launch of The Dean Hotel! It’s attracted the attention of the New York Times T Magazine, and is a Wallpaper* Magazine Editor’s pick. The Providence Journal has a great article on the renovation happening in the historic core of downtown Providence, and the website hotelchatter.com has featured it.

KITE has worked hard with the developers to uncover the century-old building’s hidden beauty to create a stylish, unique, and affordable destination.

Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes images as the final touches are made before opening day, and in the meantime, bookmark the hotel’s website and like The Dean Hotel Facebook page and check back soon!

KITE Principal Christine West, AIA appointed to State Board to Regulate Wind, Solar

The State of Rhode Island has recently formed a new board to regulate utility-purchase rates for solar, wind, and other alternative energy sources. Called the Board of Distributed Generation Contracts, the effort is part of a broader policy to increase the amount of power generated in Rhode Island by renewable sources and streamline their development and approval.

Christine is honored to part of this effort that so many advocates have worked hard to realize, and believes that the resiliency of our economy and long-term sustainability depends on building a strong infrastructure for renewable energy. The integration of energy production technology into architectural and development projects is a unique challenge.

Carter Center featured in Design New England magazine

William Morgan’s article about the Carter Center for Music Education (“Places: Sound Consolidation”) is featured in the January-February 2013 issue of Design New England magazine. (For those who prefer it in print, it can be found on the newsstands on pages 48-55.) Will captures nicely the creative and technical challenges that KITE and our team faced and resolved with this project.
